VIDEO: Gil Scott-Heron – Me And The Devil

January 18th, 2010 written by jeej

This is the official video for the first single to be taken from the upcoming new Gil Scott-Heron album I’m New Here (as reported on Jus Like Music a while back). The single is called Me And The Devil and it’s out on 22nd February, whilst the album actually comes out on 8th February – both via XL Recordings.

Me And The Devil is a dark and gritty track, with an emphasis on raw instrumentation and steady beats. Gil Scott-Heron’s vocals give the track an edge, like an age-worn veneer over solid oak. The predominantly black and white video features a gang of human skeletons – amongst various other nefarious characters – riding the urban streets at night. It’s an extremely well produced video that suits the tone of the track perfectly.

I’ll leave you with a little taster from the album…

VIDEO: El Chavo – Solitude feat. Sarah G

January 12th, 2010 written by jeej

This is the official video for the incredible track, Solitude, by talented Spanish producer El Chavo. Solitude features soulful songstress Sarah G, of the group Beatspoke, and the Santi Aguado directed video shows her as she wanders a vast urban landscape. El Chavo has worked his magic on this number to churn out a track with an infectious groove and soulful body. A well produced song that delicately balances bouncing percussion, catchy instrumentation and sweet vocals.

It’s an unreleased track, but it deserves to be heard by as many people as possible. You can catch it on the latest edition of the Jus Like Music radio show on Laid Back Radio (also available on Mixcloud), but… I can let you have an exclusive (cheeky) listen right here on Jus Like Music too…

FREE: Blockhead – The Music Scene (Megamix)

January 8th, 2010 written by jeej

Blockhead - The Music Scene

In anticipation of Blockhead‘s new instrumental hip-hop album The Music Scene, due out via Ninja Tune on 18th Jan, a 30-minute megamix is being given away for free on the Ninja Tune website.

The Music Scene is Blockhead‘s fourth full album and sees further developments with his complex hip-hop story-telling process. Always one to meld organic elements with hip-hop stylings in the most unique of ways, this time the bar is raised even higher. An array of sounds have been combined with such consideration and skill, so as to create complete sounding, nearly orchestral, songs. Every component of each song serves a purpose and plays it’s part perfectly – no unnecessary additions or out of place samples are to be found on this record. An instrumental hip-hop fan’s dream. I’d expect nothing less from Blockhead.

Tracklisting:

01. It’s Raining Clouds
02. The Music Scene
03. Only Sequences Change
04. Which One Of You Kerks Stole My Arnold Palmer
05. Attack The Doctor
06. The Prettiest Sea Slug
07. The Daily Routine
08. Tricky Turtle
09. Four Walls
10. Pity Party
11. Hell Camp
12. Farewell Spaceman
