Fun and Lots of Laughter
Middle of the week madness strikes. In what I can only (and with a distinct amount of paranoia) describe as a conspiracy, all the CDs that should have turned up recently for reviewing… just haven’t. What’s a guy gotta do?! Still, lucky enough for us that there’s been a few juicy bits of news as of late.
First up, check out this cool video for Lupe Fiasco‘s new track Day Dreamin’… >>WMP (High)<< – thanks to Rapnews.co.uk for the heads up and link. The song’s pretty cool and the video has robots, what more could you ask for? Oh the ultra talented Jill Scott is on there too.
Apparently Arctic Monkeys have won the Mercury Prize. Well done to them I guess, although I wouldn’t have picked them myself. I wonder what their acceptance speech was like? I heard them do a radio interview here in Australia and they could hardly string a few words together. Highlight of the radio show was when a phone-in guest asked a question, one of the guys was mumbling out an answer and the caller blurted “Sorry, I cant hear a word your saying!”, then had to use the host as in interpreter!
Ever considered investing money in yet to be recorded South African music? No, well you could. An artist named Verity has come up with a business model where by she pre-sells 5000 copies of her yet-to-be-recorded album to fans. It’s all based on trust and 10.6% of the proceeds will go straight to People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) and her Live Your Dreams fund for aspiring artists who lack financial backing. As you can imagine this has gained a lot of media attraction and so far Verity has pre-sold 700 albums already, a lot of these pre-orders have come from countries outside of South Africa. If you want to find out more, please visit Verity’s website.
I wondered why LL Cool J was at the VMA’s kissing 50 Cent‘s arse – well regardless that LL hasn’t done anything particularly good in years, it turns out it is because 50 Cent is to produce LL’s last album on Def Jam – oh joy of joys!
Kings Of Leon have finally named their new album. Because Of The Times will be their third studio album and should hit the shelves February or March time next year. The dudes are also set to support Bob Dylan on the Autumn leg of his upcoming American tour.
Feeling festive? Well, probably not just yet, but apparently Sufjan Stevens is to release a Christmas album. Songs For Christmas is due out on 12th November and will include all those tracks you love to hate (bah humbug!). This will actually be a package containing 5 separate EPs on CD. You get stickers, artwork, and allsorts for it – so really it would be a great Christmas present to give to a Sufjan fan.
No time for mp3s today. I’ll make up for it tomorrow.
