GIG: Tru Thoughts 10th Birthday Bash!

Time really does fly! This month, Tru Thoughts, the independent label from Brighton, will celebrate their 10th birthday. What better way to celebrate it than a huge party?! So get yourself to the Vibe Bar on Brick Lane, London this Saturday 5th September. Proceedings kick off at 1pm and will go on until 1am – yup, that’s right, a 12 hour party. If you get there before 7pm then entry will be absolutely free – otherwise £5 on the door, as the flyer above says. Belleruche, Alice Russell, TM Juke, Lizzy Parks, Stonephace and Kinny will all be doing their live thing, whilst head-honcho Rob Luis, The Bamboos, Flevans, Natural Self, Hint, Nostalgia 77 and Saravah Soul will be on Djing duties. That’s a lot of talent at one gig!

Tru Thoughts have consistently outputted quality material over the past ten years and marked their place on the musical map as a label at the forefront of independent music, both in the UK and worldwide. Whether it’s been trip-hop, downtempo, nu-jazz, hip-hop, breakbeat, jazz, latin or electronica, it has always been top-notch. This is the label who brought you the likes of Bonobo and Quantic, after all.

To tie-in with these birthday celebrations, Tru Thoughts are also releasing a 3xCD box-set of some of their finest material. I’ve heard it, it’s as good as you’d expect (if not better!) and I’ll have a review up shortly. The Tru Thoughts 10th Birthday compilation has a total of 44 tracks, spans over three and a half hours and will be officially released on 12th October. Each of the three CDs covers a particular Tru Thoughts style/vibe; CD 1 is Downtempo, CD 2 is Club and CD 3 is Exclusives – so definitely look out for that.
