It seems almost unbelievable to think that Michael Jackson has been gone for over a year now. There’s not really much I can say beyond what others already have, and what I said last year at the time of his passing – but he is missed dearly.
I do understand how to some people it all seems a bit hypocritical now, that people would mourn the loss of an artist who was looked upon by many as a sideshow celebrity for the latter part of … [read more]
This is the amazing video for Blockhead‘s track The Music Scene, which is a track from his latest album of the same name out right now on Ninja Tune. It’s an absolute masterpiece of an animation created by Anthony Francisco Schepperd – who in his own words describes the video as a dream like tale of “an animated mind melt into a post human New York where TV and animals rule!”
Project Mooncircle are one of my favourite record labels right now for a simple reason; they put out amazing music. Completely out of the blue they caught me by surprise recently with the debut EP from Numaads, which is called the Now EP. Numaads consists of Dutch producer Sense (from The Q4) and beautiful songstress Esperanzah, who combine brilliantly to create a mesmerising blend of soul and laid-back hip-hop.
The Now EP is six tracks long and spans just under 18-minutes. It also … [read more]
The second in Natural Self‘s tropical remix series sees the main man remix the track Feelin’ by 70s Nigerian band Sweet Breeze. It’s a heavy, heavy refix that gives the track a wicked modern edge. Having chosen to really chop the track and use stabs of the original vocal over bass-heavy elements, Natural Self has created something you’d expect to see in the record box of many of the alternative hip-hop/beats/electronic DJs currently working the circuit. It’s just that fresh sounding!

Long time readers of Jus Like Music may remember when we reviewed the album Loud… Louder… Stop! by the Neil Cowley Trio, which came out in 2008 to much critical acclaim. It was a powerful, energetic and deeply emotional contemporary jazz trio record, with Neil Cowley on piano, Richard Sadler on double bass and Evan Jenkins on drums. Well, recently a new album dropped by the Neil Cowley Trio, named Radio Silence, and I got the opportunity to see the guys perform … [read more]
Our friends at Mixcloud got in touch the other day about a fantastic project they are part of called “Mixcloud presents: 24 hrs to run LDN soundtrack“. In conjunction with Nike and AIDS/HIV charity (RED)‘s Tied Together Worldwide relay run, Mixcloud have curated the soundtrack for the London leg of the relay. They selected Cloudcasters (like us!) to create hour-long mixes on behalf of teams participating in the relay and have presented them with some wicked artwork created by artist Kate … [read more]
Check out this visual extravaganza for Norwegian producer Inko‘s track Un Terlude, taken from his forthcoming EP, Melma, which will drop this summer on the Steroptico label.
