Return of The Herbaliser

The Herbaliser were one of the first acts I got into from Ninja Tune way back when, after Coldcut and Mr. Scruff. I own every single album and my all-time last.fm stats insinuate that I somewhat worship them. I shall cease my prayers – they’re back, baby!

Let’s have a couple of shocks, shall we? Shock number one: They’re no longer on Ninja Tune, they are now on !K7. Shock number two: This album sees the boys team up with band members in a more permanent situation and also sees some vocalists on board for the long haul. The Herbaliser hit us with a fresh sound as they move into a new soulful territory.

The new album is called Same As It Never Was and is due out through !K7 on May 26th. Get yourself over to the new mini-site to check out some pics, vids and general information. There’s even a free mp3 over there! Maybe they should rename free mp3s to mpfrees? Hmmm. Anyway, I digress, here is the tracklisting…

01. Same As It Never Was
02. On Your Knees (feat Jessica Darling)
03. Just Won’t Stop (feat Yungun Aka Essa)
04. The Next Spot
05. Can’t Help This Feeling (feat Jessica Darling)
06. Amores Bongo
07. Street Karma (A Cautionary Tale) (feat Jean Grae)
08. You’re Not all That (feat Jessica Darling)
09. Blackwater Drive
10. Game Set &Match (feat More Or Les)
11. Clap Your Hands (feat Jessica Darling)
12. Stranded on Earth (feat Jessica Darling)

I’ll have a full review up just as soon as I receive my copy of the album. For now, reminisce and cop this track from 2003′s Herbal Blend…

great, thanks for this awesome update. that IS a big shock that they’re no longer on ninja tune.

the album art on this looks classic. this should be good timing for a nice summer tour.

Wow these preview tracks sound mighty funky. For me the more ‘organic’ approach definately works. I don’t mind on which label, as long as it’s good music (with the tracks I heard they coudl have released on freestyle just as well…)!
