Return of The Bits & Pieces
Just some midweek bits and pieces for you to digest. If you have any interesting, or amusing, stories with regards to music that you would like to share – let me know and I’ll add them with the ones below. But, here’s what I’ve got…
Stones Throw: Ten Years – The legendary underground hip-hop label have announced the imminent release of a CD/2LP that will contain a compilation of some of their best releases over the past ten years, and will also include some never before released material. However, the compilation released on 20th June, will only be sold in Guitar Center stores across the USA. Still, I’m sure you’ll see them on eBay in no time for silly prices! See the Stones Throw website for more details.
Whilst we’re on the subject of Stones Throw, it seems the whole family of Dudley Perkins is now on MySpace. Check out the pages of his daughter, Desiree Perkins, and her Mother, Dara Perkins – although the latter doesn’t have any music on her page yet. It’s a family affair, y’all!
It’s become apparent that the music Amon Tobin was working on for the new film Taxidermia is actually only a total of about ten minutes long. But, it has been said that perhaps some time in the future a limited edition EP may be released containing the said music. Rumours circulating suggest Amon is bout 50% done with his new album, so we might see either a Christmas release, otherwise it will be early 2007.
Razorlight have decided to call their new album… Razorlight. The follow up to 2004′s Up All Night is due out on 17th July. I’m pretty bloody fussy when it comes to any form of rock music, but I really enjoyed Up All Night, so hopefully this will be as good.
When pop concerts go wrong! Apparently a stunt backfired at a Robbie Williams gig in Dublin last week. He was meant to fall in a gondola 100ft in the air to the ground, but was left hanging there! But those lucky Irish pop fans will get their money’s worth, Robbie said “when the man standing behind you says, ‘It’s fucked’ in front of 70,000 people, you panic. You’ll never know how much panic went through my mind when I was up there. You’ve been much better than me. I’ve not been very good tonight so I will come back and do it for free.”
Like UK hip-hop? Check out this video to Dunya by Jehst feat. Micall Parknsun. Pretty catchy track, plus I think Micall Parknsun is one of the hottest UK emcees out there at the moment. Catch his MySpace page here, oh and Jehst’s page here. This track, Dunya, is on Low Life records – MySpace here and website here.
As a last note, if anyone has been to a music festival this year, or is going to one, I’d love to hear from you. If you’re a bit of a writer yourself, then I could potentially give you a guest spot on this blog to give us all the low-down of what went on. Word of warning though; I’m not particularly interested in Girls Aloud, Take That, or Will Young – so make sure it’s quality! Anyway, that’s your lot for today.
