Track of the Week

What to do, what to do? My conundrum is your bonus this week. I couldn’t decide between two tracks by the same artist… so I chose both, yup, two tracks for you this week. They’re by the artist known as Mr. Lif. He’s an emcee from Boston and is currently signed to Def Jux, he is infact one of very few emcees that I actually pay close attention to lyrically. His lyrical content is often deep and controversial, but it is the method of delivery that really captivates me – definitely a unique style going on.

This first track is Return Of The B-Boy – produced by El-P, this is immense, such raw beats and energy, and Lif’s rhymes! This track is clearly a reference to old hip-hop tracks and Mr. Lif’s thoughts with regards to them. Anyway, get it listened to…

The next track is Phantom from 2002′s Emergency Rations EP. Like Return Of The B-Boy, this track has an immense energy about it, like high octane chaos with utmost aural precision. Pay attention to the lyrics, this is a story many of us can relate to in one way or another…

I dare you to check new territory
American dream? Time for another story
One where I don’t choke to keep afloat
I’m sick of livin’ on false visions of hope
With a knife to my own throat
Stick of dynamite inside my overcoat
Because I know the ropes
Reality in this world is bought and sold
A very limited scope of life is shown
And I’m just one of the mold, fully controlled
Left to erode in my humble abode
You won’t hear me because I got no loot
You don’t hear me because you won’t compute
I’m docile, psycho, have you heard of such?
I’m invisible and impossible to touch

You might notice my download links are now from File Den and not YouSendIt, well… smell you later YouSendIt, smell you later forever.

Have a great weekend and be sure to purchase some Mr. Lif whilst you’re out on your travels.
