VIDEO: Charles Bradley – The World (Is Going Up In Flames)

Arguably the best track from 2007, Charles Bradley‘s funk/soul masterpiece The World (Is Going Up In Flames), has finally been given the video treatment. In anticipation of Charles Bradley’s upcoming album (No Time For Dreaming) on the Dunham Records imprint of Daptone Records, Poull Brien directed this slick video using Brooklyn scenes as the backdrop. The new album is slated for release on 25th January and is backed by The Menahan Street Band – the super-band consisting of members from; the Dap-Kings, Antibalas, The Budos Band, El Michels Affair, and Lee Fields and the Expressions.

Probably less well known than Daptone counterparts Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Lee Fields and the Expressions at this stage, Charles Bradley is likely to be a name more familiar to funk and soul 45 collectors. Hopefully the release of a full album in the new year will bring his name and music to the forefront of that ever re-emerging retro soul scene and give him the shine he deserves. It’s my most anticipated release of 2011, for sure.
